Steel structures in industrial and coastal environments are constantly exposed to moisture, chemicals and salt. A well-chosen coating system is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend their service life.

Surface preparation is everything

  • Remove rust, mill scale, oil and dust before painting.
  • Check the surface profile and cleanliness required by the coating supplier.
  • Paint only when the surface is dry and the weather conditions are within the recommended range.

Building a coating system

  • Primer: provides adhesion and corrosion protection.
  • Intermediate coat: adds film thickness and barrier protection.
  • Topcoat: resists weather, UV and chemicals.

Application and inspection

Use the thinner and mixing ratio recommended by the paint manufacturer, respect recoating times, and measure dry film thickness after each coat. Regular inspection and touch-up keep small defects from becoming major repairs.
